Meet the Team

 Tom Hood  - Managing Partner

Tom is a West Countryman to the core. Born and brought up in Bristol ( with a six year period living in Hong Kong and Singapore ), he is an old boy of Millfield School in Somerset. He served his 'apprenticeship' in residential and commercial estate agency with Hartnell, Taylor Cook, and has a wealth of experience in dealing with the sale of town and country properties. He  is a former president of the Bristol Property Agents Association, and is also a member of The Society of Merchant Venturers. Married to fellow business partner, Judith, Tom  has two sons. Away from the office, he is a keen fisherman, skier, and motor sports enthusiast.

Henry Thornhill  - Partner

Originally from London Henry moved to Bristol with his parents at a young age, and was educated at Clifton College and afterwards at Westminster College, Oxford. Henry started his career with an agency in the capital, before heading back to Bristol to join Hydes in 2001. In the past 14 years, he has acquired an in-depth knowledge of the local property scene embracing the city, its suburbs, and the surrounding villages. Henry lives in Westbury Park, and is married with two children. He is a keen golfer and also enjoys travel and skiing. 


Judith Hood - Partner

Judith, who has 30 years experience in sales and lettings, and has lived in Bristol for 25 years, having been educated at The Alice Ottley School in Worcester, and the University of the  West of England. She has a degree in town planning, and retains her membership of the Royal Institute of Town Planners. Judith and Tom set up the business in 1989. Her   hobbies include skiing, walking, and watching her sons play rugby.

Edmund Dodds - Partner

Edmund was born and educated in London. He  'cut his teeth'  in the world of estate agency in the south east, specialising in sales of country homes in Kent and Surrey. He also has experience in the international property market working for a prestigious agency in south west London. He relocated to Bristol 19 years ago, and lives with his wife, and two daughters, in Abbots Leigh. Edmund, who now has 30 years experience in the industry,  is a  member of the National Association of Estate Agents. His past times include cycling, sailing and supporting his daughters through their further education and various sporting interests.

Shaun Sutton - Partner in charge of Hydes' lettings department

With more than 20 years in the business,  Shaun is a very experienced lettings specialist. His career started in west London, and in Surrey, where he managed several lettings agencies - at one point running his own company. He moved to Bristol from London over ten years ago, and now lives in Westbury Park with his wife, two dogs, and a cat. Outside of work, he keenly follows all types of motorsport, rides his motorbike, watches local rugby, and walks the dogs.

Karen McMahon - Property Manager and Accounts Co-ordinator

Originally from Wales, Karen, in common with Tom Hood,  has spent time living in  Hong Kong, where she ran  a business . She moved to Bristol in 1998, and has been with Hydes for the past five years, concentrating on both sales and lettings. Married with three children, Karen still travels abroad as often as possible - especially to Thailand - keeping alive her interest in the culture and cuisine of the Far East.



Emma Tappenden -  Sales negotiator

Emma knows the Bristol area like the back of her hand. Born and brought up in the city, she attended St Ursula's School, and trained as a nursery nurse before switching to estate agency work six years ago. Experienced in management, sales, and marketing, Emma is mother of two daughters.


Belinda Holbrook  - Accounts Administrator

Belinda grew up in Shropshire and joined Lloyds Bank from university, moving to Bristol in 1997.  She undertook a wide range of roles as a senior manager within the Bank before deciding to take a step back from her career in 2008 to start a family.  Property has always been a strong interest for Belinda, having renovated a number of houses.  Belinda’s spare time is spent managing her and her partner’s rental portfolio and in renovating the Edwardian villa they have recently purchased


Aimee Parsons - Office Manager

Aimee, who is originally from Somerset, attended Richard Huish College in Taunton and continued her studies at Cardiff University where she recently graduated with a degree in English Literature. She has spent her past summers working as a House Parent for Millfield Enterprises. She has moved to Bristol to start her working life, previously temping in many different administrative roles. In her spare time she enjoys running, singing and playing various instruments.  Aimee is responsible for the administrative side of the office.
